In today’s market update, I want to share with you one of my favorite areas in the Portland Metro: the Northwest part of Portland, particularly the Bethany neighborhood. Having lived in Portland since 2005 and selling real estate since 2008, I can confidently say that Bethany has become a standout community. In fact, I live here myself!
Location and Features
Bethany is located approximately 10 miles west of downtown Portland, nestled near Forest Park, one of the largest urban park in the country. This neighborhood has grown significantly, largely due to its proximity to major employers like Nike’s main campus and several Intel campuses.
Most homes in Bethany were built post-1970, with a significant number of newer constructions from the 1990s, 2000s, and even recent years. This means you’ll find modern homes with contemporary designs and amenities, especially in Washington County.
Market Update: March 2024
Here’s a quick snapshot of the current real estate market in Bethany (based on Altos report):
- Price per Square Foot: $323
- Median Rent: $2,500/month
- Homes Listed: Approximately 1,400
- Price Decreased: 34% of listings have seen price reductions, indicating initial overpricing.
- Median Days on Market: 28 days
- Median List Price: $694,000
The market is seeing some price adjustments, with about one-third of listings experiencing reductions. This could be a great opportunity for buyers to find a good deal.
Community and Lifestyle
Bethany is part of Washington County, which I personally prefer for its amenities and community vibe. One of the aspects I love about Bethany is its diversity. A visit to the local Starbucks in Bethany Village showcases the multicultural mix of residents, offering a rich, inclusive environment. This neighborhood is vibrant with people from various backgrounds, creating a unique and welcoming atmosphere.

Bethany combines the convenience of modern living with the charm of a diverse community, making it an ideal place for families and professionals alike.
